Restoration of Ca de Sass Palace in Milan - Italy

Restoration of Palazzo Ca de Sass, a 19th-century building in the heart of Milan

Roof tile: 40X40 Grigio Pietra

For the restoration of the imposing architecture of 'Ca' de Sass', Ardogres in collaboration with Teicos took care of the re-roofing with the installation of ceramic slate tiles (Ardogres Grigio Pietra 40X40) and the removal of asbestos cement slabs.
The lightness and ease of installation of the Ardogres porcelain stoneware tiles allowed for a rapid completion of the work site: the work was completed in only 3 months, also thanks to the creation of an overlay that guaranteed the continuity of the reclamation and re-roofing operations.

Instead of asbestos, an environmentally friendly material was chosen. Ardogres porcelain stoneware shingles are mainly made from natural clay and contain no harmful chemicals such as lead or cadmium. The production process of fine porcelain stoneware uses less water and energy than other roofing materials.

Originally the headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde, now part of Intesa Sanpaolo, the 'Ca' de Sass' was built between 1868 and 1872 by architect Giuseppe Balzaretti and is one of the most significant examples in Milan of late 19th century eclectic architecture. The characteristic rusticated structure, the large regular stone boulders - the 'sass' in fact - determined the nickname of dialectal origin by which the building is still identified today: 'Ca' de Sass'.
